Falafel is a popular Middle Eastern dish traditionally made with chickpeas or fava beans. The flavors are a harmonious blend of spicy, savory, and sometimes slightly nutty.
How to prepare falafel with our spice mix? Here's a quick suggestion for preparing falafel.
Preparing the falafel
1. Prepare the chickpeas: Take 500 g of dried chickpeas and soak them in water overnight (at least 12 hours). Do not boil them—raw, soaked chickpeas provide the right consistency.
2. Mix the dough: Puree the drained chickpeas with 1 bunch of parsley, ½ bunch of cilantro, 1 finely chopped onion, 3 cloves of garlic, and the organic falafel seasoning mix in a blender or food processor. The dough should remain coarse and not become too smooth.
3. Shape: Form small balls or flat patties (approx. 2-3 cm thick).
4. Deep-fry: Heat vegetable oil to 170-180°C and deep-fry the falafel for 3-5 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Alternatively, bake them in the oven at 200°C for about 20-25 minutes (don't forget to turn them over).
5. Serve: Enjoy with tahini sauce, hummus, salad or in a flatbread.
